Announcing the shortlist of 2017 Search Engine Land Awards nominees

For the third consecutive year, the selection process in the Search Engine Land Awards became even more difficult, as the field of competition grew to nearly 300 worthy submissions from leading digital agencies, in-house marketing teams and individuals around the world.
Michelle Robbins, the newly appointed SVP of content and editor-in-chief of Search Engine Land, was incredibly impressed by the depth and scope of entries in this year’s competition. “As a first-time judge, having the opportunity to pull back the curtain and examine the campaigns executed by some of the top search marketers in the industry was inspiring. The work done, creativity expressed and results achieved demonstrate what a truly talented community it is that we serve.”
Robbins and Ginny Marvin, associate editor at Search Engine Land, will also co-host this year’s awards presentation.
Marvin, now in her third year of judging the growing field of applicants, added, “The consistently sophisticated, creative and inspiring quality of the campaigns submitted

What does it mean to win a Search Engine Land Award?

When we decided to launch our search marketing industry awards program three years ago, the guiding principle was have the honors be truly meaningful. That’s why it’s no small task to enter the competition- we ask for a lot of supporting data and information so our editorial staff and industry judges can effectively measure outstanding results and reward innovation in search marketing.
Year after year, we’ve seen the level of competition rise, and fully expect 2017 to showcase some amazing examples of successful search marketers. And for many finalists, there really is satisfaction in being added to the short list, and we agree – it’s incredibly difficult to name just one winner in every category.
While earning a finalist title would have been enough after a win the previous year, Katy Tonkin of Point It was pleasantly surprised to take home a trophy in 2016 for an enterprise SEM campaign they ran for Microsoft Store.

Meet a Landy Award winner: For its work with Scotts Miracle-Gro, Acronym wins Best Overall Enterprise SEM Initiative

This year’s Best Overall Enterprise SEM Initiative Landy Award field was a competitive one. The winner needed to utilize best in class tactics and initiatives, various platforms and tools, and, of course, improve visability and/or convert new customers on major search platforms and earn a positive return on investment. When the dust settled in the judges’ room, there was only one agency left standing: Acronym.
Acronym took home the win thanks to their work with Scotts Miracle-Gro. They were able to build a unique set of key performance indicators (KPIs) that helped to influence and inform customers on what is a very offline purchase. Furthermore, the identification and categorization applied to the various steps that a customer takes throughout the research stages. The creation and implementation of this system not only helped them drive success for their client but also helped them take home the Landy.
Acronym stated the following about the Scotts Miracle-Gro account:
‘Tackling a client that primarily does

Meet a Landy Award winner: Quick on its feet, Point It wins Best B2C Enterprise SEM Initiative

Katy Tonkin (left) and Maddie Cary of Point It accept the Landy for Best B2C Enterprise SEM Initiative.
The mission they chose to accept: to build and activate paid search campaigns to promote the surprise product launch of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book on the US Microsoft Store website — in less than 24 hours.
Mission accomplished. For its quick execution of tailored, targeted campaigns that exceeded expectations, Seattle-based Point It Digital Marketing took home the Landy award for Best B2C Enterprise SEM Initiative. This was Point It’s second consecutive Landy win.
Not only was time not on their side, but once the campaigns were launched, Point It faced stiff competition from other authorized sellers and retailers carrying the new Surface products.
Point It focused their campaign structure and keyword strategy on reaching lower-funnel prospects who knew about the new products and were searching on brand keywords that signaled purchase intent. Negative keywords were added to funnel target prospects

We are thrilled to announce the finalists for the inaugural Search Engine Land Awards. With over 100 compelling entries, we are truly impressed by the overwhelming response and overall quality of submissions.
Our judging panel had the difficult task of narrowing the field. Choosing a winner from each of the following finalists will be even more difficult, as all have demonstrated significant results in the search marketing campaigns submitted.
We would like to take a moment to congratulate all of the finalists and thank all of the remaining candidates for their thoughtful submissions, which will benefit the total charitable contribution.
On September 30, 2015, the winners will be announced during a special ceremony at our annual SMX After Dark evening event in New York City.
